Adult Education and Learning

Aim

At Toca we provide a range of adult education and learning courses.

We want students to finish these courses equipped with the knowledge and confidence they need to manage any situation in their work or home lives that draws on a need for such knowledge.

Who will these courses benefit?

Our AE&L training courses are aimed at those who are weak in numeracy, literacy, language, inter-personal skills etc.

Those who will best benefit from these courses will be

  • Low skilled workers/unemployed who are seeking to enhance their skills to pursue better jobs or enhance their employability;
  • Adult learners pursuing courses for self-improvement and greater self confidence in areas of study which are vital life skills as well as work skills;
  • Those who have difficult backgrounds such as homelessness, addiction, prison etc.  They need reintegration into society and education is a bridge to that reintegration;
  • Those from non-British backgrounds who want to speak good English at home to their children and be able to help them with schoolwork.

Nobody should be put off from participating on one of our courses due to a lack of confidence.  It is assumed and it is helpful that students have some knowledge of the subject matter of the training courses they attend but it is not necessary and we ensure that all our students benefit from participation.

Our students are highly valued and feedback from them is critical to us being able to provide rigorous, high quality and interesting courses.  We are more than happy with students remaining in contact and sending us information.  We have a dedicated email address for this purpose student.support@toca-training.com.

Background

The UK is one of the world’s largest economies and possesses a long and proud industrial and cultural tradition.  Despite this basic skills’ problems in the UK are increasing.  This causes damage to the economy but causes much deeper and longer lasting problems to the individual and their family.  Feelings of shame and helplessness impact on employment opportunities and social involvement.  It is often a source of disharmony within families particularly as children begin to place expectations on parents that cannot be met.

Course Outline

We regularly release new courses but among the courses that are core to our AE&L offering at present are courses set out below.

The duration, materials and costs for our AE&L courses vary from course to course so please review the relevant course on this website for these details.

At Toca we provide adult, education and learning courses that present up-to-date material in an interesting, interactive and supportive way.  It is important that our students involve themselves in the class, ask questions, suggest solutions and work together.  A number of our courses have an end of course exam which students are obliged to pass in order to receive certification.  We give every support to our students in order for them to achieve this and do not anticipate students completing a course without certification.

All our trainers have worked extensively in industry, and are university qualified specialists.  All have extensive experience training at all levels.

The courses we currently run are as follows:

Basic Numeracy
Basic Literacy
Basic Computing
ESOL
Public Studies

We also prepare bespoke training courses.  Further information on this is available on Toca Bespoke courses
